Netflix Releases Its ‘Knives Out’ Tie-In Game Just In Time For Christmas

Released just in time for the Christmas holiday, Netflix has dropped its latest video game tie-in for the murder-mystery movie franchise Knives Out, now available on connected TVs, devices, and the web, with your phone as the controller. 

The game was first announced as part of Netflix’s Party Game initiative, which was previewed to select press in Los Angeles and Helsinki in recent months. The initiative follows a whirlwind year for Netflix Games, marked by a strategy shift after the departure of Mike Verdu and new priorities set within the division, albeit at the expense of previously released games that have since been removed and earlier projects canceled altogether.

Per a Netflix release today, here’s what you can expect from the game:

“Dive into a classic social-deduction party game, where there’s a murder in your midst and everyone’s a suspect. It’s like Secret Werewolves or Mafia, or Clue for board game fans, but with no fiddly pieces, just your TV, your phone, and your most cunning friends. Can you clear your name, or will you be caught red-handed?”

According to the Netflix page, games last just over 10 minutes and support between four and eight players.

The game is built by The Game Band, an indie studio that has previously worked on hit titles Where Cards Fall and Blaseball. The team is primarily based in Los Angeles, with collaborators around the world.

They confirmed their involvement earlier this year, writing, “We’re so excited to reveal Dead Man’s Party: A Knives Out Game. It’s our fresh take on social deduction, coming soon to Netflix. We love Knives Out. It’s such a joy and honor to make a game for this wonderful series.”
The game launches shortly after the release of Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, which has so far picked up modest viewership on Netflix since its December 12 release, accruing 100 million hours watched, equivalent to 41.1 million views.

With the arrival of Dead Man’s Party: A Knives Out Game, Netflix now has six “Game Night” titles available, following the earlier launches of Pictionary, Boggle Party, LEGO Party, Party Crashers, and Tetris: Time Warp. Additional games available on TVs and the web include arcade and indie titles such as Oxenfree, Link Twin, and Underwater Melon.
