As industry fans pore over details for Quentin Tarantino’s highly anticipated follow-up to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, new information has been revealed seemingly confirming the movie’s title, as well as its main narrative plot line.
The film, apparently titled The Continuing Adventures of Cliff Booth, is said to follow Cliff Booth — Brad Pitt’s chisel-jawed stunt double first introduced Tarantino’s 2019 Oscar-nominated film. An official synopsis for the movie has yet to be announced, but insiders claim that the film will follow Booth as he embarks on a new career as a Hollywood studio fixer.
As previously confirmed by multiple media outlets, the project came about after Pitt expressed interest in Tarantino’s canceled film, ‘The Movie Critic,’ which apparently featured an appearance from Pitt’s macho stuntman. When Tarantino shelved the film, Pitt continued voicing his enthusiasm for a potential Cliff Booth-centered spin-off, eventually gaining Tarantino’s permission to shop the project around to other potential directors.
Ultimately, Pitt took the story to his regular collaborator David Fincher, with whom the 61-year-old actor had worked with on Se7en, Fight Club, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.
The widely anticipated new movie will be released by Netflix, spelling out yet another successful partnership between Fincher and the streaming service after Mank and The Killer. Filming for the project is expected to begin this summer in California.
While Tarantino won’t personally direct the film, it’s been repeatedly stated that The Continuing Adventures of Cliff Booth will be a “derivative” of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood rather than an official sequel. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Tarantino’s ninth and most recent film, earned significant critical acclaim upon its release in 2019, earning the Golden Globe Award for Best Comedy and netting Pitt an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.
