New realms of the Pit and Rudo’s developing powers

3 July 20263 Mins Read

After exploding onto the anime scene with one of 2025’s strongest debuts, Gachiakuta is officially back with a new inside look of the next season at Anime Expo. Following the announcement that a second season was in production after the first finale, fans have now gotten their first proper look at what’s next for Rudo and the Cleaners with a new first-look teaser that dives even deeper into the Pit.

Based on the manga by Kei Urana, Gachiakuta quickly distinguished itself from the crowded shonen landscape through its graffiti-inspired visual identity, inventive “Jinki” power system, and a world built quite literally on society’s discarded trash. In many ways, it’s reminiscent of MAPPA’s beloved Dorohedoro in its presentation and world. Bones Film (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Mob Psycho 100) translated the very specific feel of Gachiakuta into one of the year’s most visually distinctive anime, pairing kinetic action with an increasingly compelling mystery surrounding Rudo’s place in the world.

Season 2 picks up after the dramatic events of the first season, as Rudo’s journey into the depths of the Pit continues. As his powers continue to evolve, he’ll find himself crossing paths with dangerous new foes and factions whose goals stretch far beyond simply surviving the Pit. While newcomers should avoid digging too deeply into manga discussions, the next stretch of the story dramatically expands both the world and the cast, introducing new allies, dangerous enemies, and bigger questions about the systems that govern this broken society.

The series begins shifting its focus beyond simple survival, exploring the people and organizations shaping the conflict from every angle. Speaking on stage at Anime Expo 2026, season 2 director Fumihiko Suganuma seems poised to draw out some of the story’s more intricate elements in interesting ways, calling it a “big pivot” and including “a lot of growth.” The season 2 sneak peek shared during the event is proof of that intent, gshowing an exciting new look at Rudo’s powers and how the Cleaners factor in this season.

If the first season was about proving Gachiakuta belonged among modern shonen’s biggest newcomers, season 2 looks to answer how much bigger this world can become. Exciting characters, both returning and new, will draw out the most terrifying elements this coming season. Although short, the explosive footage shown at Anime Expo proves Bones isn’t dialing back the ambition anytime soon. An official release date wasn’t announced during the panel, but is set to stream on Crunchyroll when it inevitably launches.
