Sorry to anyone waiting for a Solo Leveling season 3 — you’re getting a blockbuster feature film first.
Announced during Anime Expo 2026, Solo Leveling: Beyond the System is now in production as a direct continuation of season 2, Arise from the Shadows. The movie will pick up where the anime left off, though Crunchyroll and Aniplex didn’t announce a release date or reveal any story details beyond a teaser visual and the film’s English title.
The announcement comes after months of speculation that Solo Leveling season 3 might not arrive until 2027 or even 2028. Now that news makes a lot more sense: the movie gives fans a much-needed return to Sung Jinwoo while Sony capitalizes on one of anime’s hottest properties at the box office before bringing it back to streaming.
Makes plenty of sense in 2026! Following the record-setting U.S. success of Demon Slayer‘s latest theatrical release, anime movies are no longer niche events. They’re becoming major theatrical draws, and Solo Leveling has spent the past two years proving it has one of the largest fan bases in the medium.
Based on Chugong’s hit Korean web novel and later adapted into the massively popular webtoon, Solo Leveling follows Sung Jinwoo, the world’s weakest Hunter, after he gains the unique ability to level up without limit. What begins as a familiar underdog fantasy quickly turns into one of anime’s most addictive power-progression stories, mixing RPG mechanics with dungeon raids and increasingly impossible battles.

Solo Leveling’s successor is coming to Crunchyroll this summer
Tomb Raider King is a Korean webnovel about high-stakes dungeon spelunking that’s getting an anime in July
The anime adaptation debuted in 2024, with season 2 following just a year later. Both were animated by A-1 Pictures, which returns for Beyond the System. The film is produced by Aniplex, Netmarble, D&C Media, Kakao Piccoma, and Crunchyroll, who will surely be receiving upset emails shortly from people who woulda loved a season 3.
Crunchyroll and Aniplex stopped short of confirming what comes after the movie, but Beyond the System almost certainly isn’t replacing season 3. It’s just also going to be the next huge anime theatrical event.
