Nicholas Brendon's Cause of Death: What We Know So Far

Buffy the Vampire Slayer actor Nicholas Brendon has died at the age of 54.

The Hollywood Reporter was first to report the news on Friday, Mar. 20 after receiving confirmation from Brendon’s family.

“Most people know Nicky for his work as an actor and for the characters he brought to life over the years,” the statement read in part. “In recent years Nicky has found his passion in painting and art. Nicky loved to share his enthusiastic talent with his family, friends and fans. He was passionate, sensitive, and endlessly driven to create. Those who truly knew him understood that his art was one of the purest reflections of who he was.”

The family also asked for privacy and thanked everyone who has shown love and support.

What is Nicholas Brendon’s cause of death?

In their statement to The Hollywood Reporter, Brendon’s family said he “passed in his sleep of natural causes.”

The family added, “While it’s no secret that Nicholas had struggles in the past, he was on medications and treatment to manage his diagnosis and he was optimistic about the future at the time of his passing.”

In 2023, Brendon revealed that he had suffered a heart attack and had been diagnosed with a congenital heart defect.

The actor also had cauda equina syndrome, which according to the Cleveland Clinic, is a medical emergency that happens when an injury or herniated disk compresses nerve roots at the bottom of your spinal cord. Brendon had several spinal surgeries to treat this ailment.

It is unconfirmed if cauda equina syndrome or his heart issues contributed to his death.
