Nintendo Switch update finally fixes eShop bug fans complained about for 9 years

You can buy digital Switch games without getting frustrated now

If you own a Switch, you might want to charge the console and get it connected to the internet ASAP. The latest patch for the portable system is not one of those disappointing updates that vaguely promises to improve system stability. Version 22.5.0 actually fixes something that Nintendo should have addressed back in 2017, when the Switch was originally released.

The Nintendo eShop is notorious for being a glitchy, slow mess. Simply moving through the storefront can make the eShop feel like the system is trying to run a new game on max settings. The lag only lasted a few seconds, and the eShop has always been functional. Compared to the competition’s near-instant loading times, the Switch’s eShop still had a knack for spiking cortisol levels. Though many have moved on to the Switch 2, new games are still releasing on the original Switch. As such, it’s ridiculous that Nintendo hadn’t addressed this issue for 9 years.

Well, after nearly a decade of complaining, Nintendo has finally done it. The eShop is good now. Hilariously, the patch notes don’t really reflect the magnitude of this development. All Nintendo says is that the eShop’s layout has been redesigned, and its color coordination has improved. The notes read, “The Nintendo eShop color will now reflect the theme color if your theme in System Settings is set to Basic Dark.”

If you open the eShop, however, you’ll note that everything is now buttery smooth. BlueSky user Daniel Vuckovic shows the changes in a quick video below:

Now you can buy upcoming titles like Final Fantasy Resonance or Rhythm Heaven Groove without being frustrated by navigating the menu!
