Nintendo’s New Zelda Switch 2 Hardware Officially Arrives This Month

Nintendo has a new Switch 2 console and controllers coming to commemorate both Zelda’s 40th anniversary and the upcoming remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. The new Zelda-themed hardware lineup will be released on Oct. 29, one week ahead of the Ocarina of Time remake.

But good luck getting your hands on the system, which is in short supply amid sky-high anticipation for Nintendo’s new Zelda remake.

The Nintendo Switch 2 Legend of Zelda – 40th Anniversary Edition system

Announced in September during a Nintendo Direct showcase, the controllers and Switch 2 hardware feature a black, gold, and green color scheme that is reminiscent of the franchise protagonist, Link, and his Triforce of Courage. Accordingly, the console and controller display a cluster of triangle-shaped decals surrounding a Triforce symbol and the Hylian Crest. The two are sold separately, but fans who purchase the console will have access to a set of themed Joy-Con 2 controllers. The company is also releasing a special carrying case and screen protector, to keep your console looking fresh. The Pro Controller will also come with a sleek display stand decorated with Hyrule Castle.

How to pre-order the Zelda Switch 2 console

Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 Legend of Zelda – 40th Anniversary Edition console, which costs $519.99, are now live but currently sold out.

A Nintendo-exclusive version of the Pro Controller, available via its online store or physical retail locations, will come with a chic display stand — and it’s more expensive than the standard version. This is the pre-order link for the Pro Controller with Zelda display stand, which costs $109.99. It is also already sold out.

There is also the standard version of the controller, which costs $99.99 — or $10 more than a typical Pro Controller — is also available for pre-order. It’s also sold out.

Nintendo will also sell a Zelda-themed carrying case and screen protector that costs $39.99, and launch alongside the other Zelda-themed accessories. This is the pre-order link for the carrying case and screen protector. It is currently sold out.

The new Zelda-themed releases coincide with Nintendo’s decision to raise the price of the Switch 2 up to $499.99. Earlier in 2025, the Japanese company also hiked prices for the Nintendo Switch and its Lite and OLED variants. These price adjustments are the result of an AI-driven component shortage that is impacting the entire gaming industry. Though some fans were displeased at the prospect of paying more for hardware that is not as powerful as rival consoles, releasing special variants like this one will help soften the blow. As a precaution, Nintendo has already begun warning potential customers in retail stores about the impending price hike.

The Ocarina of Time Switch 2 remake is slated for release on Nintendo Switch 2 on Nov. 5. Nintendo revealed first details and 15 minutes of gameplay from its upcoming remake of the Nintendo 64 classic on Tuesday, showing what the Switch 2 is capable of in reimagining the land of Hyrule.

Nintendo also wrapped filming in spring 2026 on The Legend of Zelda film starring Bo Bragason as Princess Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link. The movie, which is a joint production between Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto and Sony veteran Avi Arad, is rumored to feature Sam Neill’s final performance. Neill’s role in the film has not yet been revealed.
