One of Canada’s few sunflower mazes is in Alberta and here’s when it might open

4 July 20252 Mins Read

Gardens are full of bright pinks and greens, but it won’t be long until fields of gold are also in bloom. From mountain tops to the Badlands, Canada has no shortage of photo ops, but in the summertime, Bowden Sunmaze in Alberta is among the best.

Bowden Sunmaze

Located an hour north of Calgary and about two hours south of Edmonton, this enchanting destination is a must-visit for a number of reasons.

Here, you can wander through three acres of upick vegetables and flowers, and lose yourself in the willow trees, but that’s not all.

This Bowden beauty is also home to one of Canada’s few sunflower mazes.

With eight acres to navigate, guests will have to keep track of where they’ve been while also looking ahead to find the correct path hidden within.

With thousands upon thousands of seeds planted, this particular activity will be a ton of fun for the whole family, assuming you make it out successfully.

When to visit

Want to check it out?

Unfortunately, the farm will remain closed until its 2025 sunflowers start to blossom, which usually happens mid to late July.

While you wait patiently, however, there is plenty to see and do around the province. After all, time flies when you’re having fun.

When the farm is ready to let people back in, adult admission will start at $15, while a child ticket will cost just $7.50.

Tots under four can get in free of charge, and pets are welcome as long as they’re kept on a leash.

When visiting the farm, they recommend budgeting anywhere between two to five hours, unless you’re just popping in to buy a bag of carrots.

Prepare to join a larger crowd between noon and 3:30 p.m. in the mazes, and 2:30 and 5 p.m. in the gardens, or visit outside of their peak times for a more intimate experience.

It’s going to be another beautiful season, Alberta, so get ready and get set.

When: Mid to late July
Time: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Where: 34530 RR#14, Red Deer County, Alta.
Admission: $7.50+
