One of the longest freshwater beaches in Ontario has shallow waters

21 May 20252 Mins Read

Planning for the summer season? Here’s a lesser-known spot that barely draws any crowds, and when the weather is right, it’s a perfect escape from the city. Ipperwash Beach is next on our radar, and here’s what to know.

Next Stop: Ipperwash Beach

The lovely sandy destination can be found south of the popular Grand Bend, along the shores of Lake Huron.

According to Destination Ontario, this beach is a “hidden gem”, known for its serene and sandy lakeside to its friendly rental cottage communities.

Though surprisingly enough, it doesn’t draw a lot of crowds. Compared to other destinations nearby, this is the place to be this summer if you’re looking for something more relaxing.

Ipperwash Beach is actually one of the longest freshwater beaches in all of Ontario. It has three separate entrances off West Ipperwash Road, Ipperwash Road, and Army Camp Road.

It’s also known for its soft sand and shallow water. But there’s more to Ipperwash Beach than just its shore.

Per Destination Ontario, it is home to hiking trails that extend in and around the sand dunes and former provincial park areas.

You read that right. This area was once known as Ipperwash Provincial Park, and can be explored via the Ipperwash Dunes and Swales Trail and the Lambton Shores Nature Trails.

So if you’d love to explore more of Ipperwash Beach and soak up some sun, this is the place to be.

Where: 9837 County Rd. 3, Lambton Shores
