Tucked away in the scenic Blue Mountain Resort in Ontario is a thrilling mountain coaster that lets you choose how fast you want to travel through the surrounding forest.
The Ridge Runner Mountain Coaster runs along a one-kilometre track that winds through the forested mountainside, giving you sweeping views of the Niagara Escarpment, Georgian Bay, and the surrounding village, all while offering full control of the experience.
Originally opened in 2011, the Ridge Runner was introduced as a modern, safer replacement for the resort’s original summer attraction, The Great Slide Ride, which had been speeding visitors down the mountain on plastic sleds since 1977.
The new ride can be done solo or with a friend, but either way, you’re in charge of the pace from start to finish, with the capacity to travel in speeds up to 42 km/h. The coaster boasts 45 carts in total and sees 2,000 riders on a typical summer day.
You can access the Ridge Runner with a full-access Adventure park ticket, which includes other attractions like the Canopy Climb Net Adventure, Cascade Putting Course, and Lumber Lanes Climbing Centre.
Summer weekday rates are $49, while weekends and holidays go up to $74. Prices can range up to $104 depending on the season.
Also included with the pass is the Plunge! Aquatic Centre, Skywalk Challenge High Ropes, Wind Rider Triple Zips, access to hiking and biking trails, as well as Blue Mountain’s private beach, which officially opens this July.
All attractions run rain or shine (except for the Ridge Runner). The mountain coaster is open year-round and runs Friday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Monday to Thursday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
