Ontario’s largest kite festival will take over the skies this weekend

24 August 20262 Mins Read

Ontario’s largest kite festival, the Hopeville Kite Festival, returns to Grey County this coming weekend, bringing entertainment, food and a vendor market to the much-anticipated open-air event.

Now in its third year, the Hopeville Kite Festival shines the spotlight on kite enthusiasts from across North America, where 17 professional kite fliers will take to the skies, putting on a spectacle for audiences to enjoy throughout the weekend-long event.

But the professional kite-flying shows don’t mean you can’t bring your own kite and try your hand at flying one yourself. Organizers encourage guests to bring their own kites, but ask everyone to follow the safety rules while on site.

A designated “Fly Your Own Kite” space will be available on the grounds each day from noon to 5 p.m., where guests can take their kites out for a sky-high spin and have some fun.

Although kites are the main attraction, plenty of other activities will keep visitors entertained. Local performers will take the stage for live music, while a kite-decorating hour throughout the day will give guests a chance to get creative.

The Hopeville Kite Festival will take place on Aug. 29 and 30, from noon to 5 p.m. daily. Although it is a free event, organizers welcome donations to help put on the festival year after year.

The festival will take place at 125849 Southgate Rd. 12 in Dundalk, Ont.
