Ontario’s longest outdoor man-made skating trail is in this popular park

25 December 20252 Mins Read

In the winter, Arrowhead Provincial Park truly comes alive and becomes one of Ontario’s most popular snowy destinations. And that’s mostly thanks to its famous skating trail. It’s actually Ontario’s longest outdoor man-made skating trail, attracting thousands of visitors each winter season. Here’s what to know.

Where is Arrowhead Provincial Park?

Pack up your car and head up north. The park is a three-hour drive from Toronto to the Muskoka region.

According to Destination Ontario, the park spans 1,237 hectares and was first established in 1971 “as a high-quality outdoor recreation setting in the heart of Muskoka.”

Since then, it has become an all-season staple for nature enthusiasts. But it really does hit the mark in the winter season.

“With 28 kilometres of classic ski trails and 16 skating and skiing trails of varying difficulties, this park is regarded as one of the best cross-country skiing destinations in Ontario,” shares the site.

So it only makes sense that it’s home to this popular ski trail.

Famous skating trail

As we’ve already mentioned, the park is home to the “longest outdoor man-made skating rink” in Ontario.

Per Destination Ontario, its 1.3-kilometre skating trail weaves through the forest, offering skaters a magical winter experience.

“Opened in 2012 on a whim and a vision, the Ice Skating Trail has become one of the region’s most popular winter attractions, and one of the province’s most sought-after winter ‘bucket list’ experiences,” shares Discover Muskoka.

The park also hosts its popular Fire and Ice nights, where torch lights line the trail. It’s a magical experience and is beloved every winter.

If you’re eager for a winter activity this week or even into January, this is a wonderful experience you need to check out at least once.

Where: 451 Arrowhead Park Rd., Huntsville, Ont.
