Whether you like to tune everything out while you exercise or are seeking community in the new year, taking a fitness class or visiting your local gym is a great way to do both. From reformer pilates to climbing, to spin class, here are some of the best gyms and fitness studios to check out to get your body moving.

Now with studios downtown and in Kits, Kommunity Fitness offers personalized strength and conditioning group workouts for anyone looking to work out with a friend or small group. You’ll select the weekly classes that align with your goals to build your ideal workout schedule, starting with a guided intro course that allows you to familiarize yourself with the studio, the instructors, and some of the exercises they demonstrate. Classes start at $15 each (following your first free class), depending on the type of membership you go with.

Where: 1296 Homer St. and 2020 Arbutus St.

This one’s for those interested in learning to boulder in a safe environment and meet new friends in the process. At Hive Heights, monthly climbing memberships start at $113.23 and give you unlimited visits. If you’re looking for a bit of instruction, Hive members receive half off on all courses. First-timers can pick up a day-pass to access the gym, or opt for the $75 beginners class to learn the proper techniques.

Looking to try one of their yoga classes? Head to the drop-in-friendly North Shore studio to enjoy new ways to move your body and improve your flexibility.

Where: 520 Industrial Ave. and 670 Industrial Ave.

One of the biggest names in the game, Anytime Fitness promises a “community that fits your life,” with locations in False Creek, Chinatown, and West End. Members have access to all Anytime locations worldwide, and membership options vary depending on where you sign up. On average, members in Canada pay $53 a month.
