Over 50 Richmond museums, galleries, and historic sites will be free to visit for one weekend in June

8 May 20254 Mins Read

Calling all local history and art buffs! The 18th annual Doors Open Richmond is next month, making over 50 museums, art studios, national historic sites, farms, and more completely free to access. The largely self-guided event opens the doors to some of the most beloved attractions and sites in Richmond, as well as those hidden gems you might not yet have heard of.

“From civic workers and local artists to businesses showcasing their incredible work, this event provides opportunities to step inside the places that shape our community and meet the people who bring it to life,” says Bilan Hassan, chair of the Richmond Museum Society. “Richmond is a vibrant, multicultural city filled with unique stories, ideas, and experiences—and Doors Open is the perfect chance to discover it all.”

More bus tours

Those interested in a slightly more guided alternative to roaming the museums and galleries of their choice can hop on one of two bus tours, which will explore the sites thematically.

The Sacred Spaces tour will bring visitors to different places of worship along No. 5 Road, known as the “Highway to Heaven,” and additional neighbourhoods in Richmond. According to organizers, this tour will stop at Lingyen Mountain Temple, Eastern Catholic Church, and Vedic Cultural Centre on Saturday, and Richmond Ismaili Jamatkhana, Richmond Jamia Mosque, and Steveston Buddhist Temple on Sunday.

The newly added Discover Doors Open tour, on the other hand, is curated to showcase three different partner sites on both Saturday and Sunday of Doors Open Richmond. On Saturday, the stops will be at The Sharing Farm, Effat Mirnia Art Studio, and Nanaksar Gurdwara Gursikh Temple.

On Sunday, the stops will be at Athiana Acres, LuLu Island Winery, and FT Art Studio.

Highlights of this year’s event include the opening of KPU Farms, which invites families to explore sustainable growing methods and a variety of local crops.

Visitors can also roam the dreamy vineyards at LuLu Island Winery and learn about the rich traditions of paper making and bookbinding at Seawrack Press Studio.
