Ozzy Osbourne Didn't Believe in Heaven or Hell

25 July 20252 Mins Read

Almost two decades before Ozzy Osbourne died, the rocker opened up about his thoughts on the afterlife.

“I don’t know. Nobody’s ever come back and said, ‘Hey, it’s pretty cool up there,’ or, ‘You know, it’s f–king hotter than f–king s–t down there. You’ve got to shovel coal,’” Osbourne candidly said during an interview with Playboy in 2005. “I don’t think I believe in that stuff. It’s for people with morals.”

The “Crazy Train” artist also mentioned his near-fatal ATV accident in December 2003. He had been riding his quad bike in Birmingham, England, when he crashed into a tree. Osbourne sustained multiple injuries after the bike flipped over, and he bled out internally, which led to the rock god falling into a coma for eight days. At one point, he was clinically dead before being resuscitated by his bodyguard.

“People have asked me, ‘Did you see the light?’” Osbourne told the publication, referencing the accident. “I saw a light. But I think it was just my coming out of my coma. I believe there’s a higher power. I believe in a power greater than myself that’s f–king way more powerful than me – the ocean, the world, the universe.”

The injury left Osbourne with ongoing spinal issues that were later aggravated by a fall in 2019. His health continued to decline in the years that followed, and earlier this year, the Prince of Darkness revealed that he was no longer able to walk. Just weeks before his death, Osbourne and the original members of Black Sabbath performed a farewell concert, where fans noted he appeared visibly frail.

On July 22, Osbourne’s family announced that the rocker had died.

“It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning,” the statement read. “He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time.”
