Path of Exile 2 is free for the first time — for one weekend only

20 August 20252 Mins Read

If you’ve held off playing one of the chief Diablo competitors, now’s your chance: Path of Exile 2 will be free to play for the first time, albeit temporarily. Alongside the next big update, this temporary event will allow anyone to play the game between Aug. 29 and Sept. 1 on PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.

During the Aug. 20 GGG Live livestream, Jonathan Rogers, one of the founders of Path of Exile developer Grinding Gear Games and a familiar host of its shows, explained that the studio is making Path of Exile 2 accessible for anyone for the first time. Even though players can only enjoy the game for free for a couple of days, it’s a great opportunity to experience Path of Exile 2, which normally requires you to buy an early access key to play it.

By jumping into the Path of Exile 2 free weekend, you’ll have access to all available content. And since the new update, “The Third Edict,” drops on Aug. 29, this means you will have the chance to try the fourth act of the campaign and three interludes that are brand-new to the game.

You don’t need to worry about starting behind experienced players when it comes to your character builds, either. The Third Edict update will bring massive changes to Support Gems, add new pieces of equipment, and introduce a fresh seasonal mechanic for players to engage with. Besides, according to GGG, all the progress made during the free weekend on Path of Exile 2 is saved, so you can start from where you left if you decide to grab an early access key. For more information, here’s Grinding Gear Games’ complete FAQ on the free weekend.
