From a cappella to beheaded wives, Grammy-winning Pentatonix member Kirstin Maldonado is currently starring in the Broadway musical SIX. The 2022 Tony award-winning show, which runs through late August, reimagines the stories of Henry VIII’s six wives as a modern pop concert.
Maldonado plays the iconic Ann Boleyn, making SIX her second Broadway appearance after starring in Kinky Boots in 2018.
“Musical theater in general is how I first fell in love with music. It feels like coming home in a really beautiful way,” said Maldonado.

She continued, noting what being in SIX has meant to her.
“Just to be with women and have that community and understanding has been really fun,” said Maldonado. “The show itself is really important. The premise of it is ‘don’t let other people write your stories.'”
She also mentioned the endless support she’s received from Pentatonix fans, many of which came to see the show.
“It means a lot to me that they would come and support. A lot of them know that this has always been like my first love.”
Maldonado’s fellow Pentatonix member, Scott Hoying, recently starred in last season’s Dancing With The Stars. When asked if she’d consider following in his path, she said, “I would be super down. I would love it.”
Aside from dancing shows and Broadway performances, Pentatonix has much to look forward to in the music world.

“Well, we released new original music,” said Maldonado. “We’re gonna release some more original music in the summer. We’re playing Summer Sonic in Japan in August.”
She continued, jokingly, “You know, we’re always back for Christmas.” If you know Pentatonix, you know their iconic Christmas covers will be playing during the holiday season.
What’s next for Kirstin Maldonado?
As for her solo career, Maldonado has no shortage of ideas for what the future holds.
“I think any opportunity that would bring me out to New York is amazing. I love Broadway in general, whether that’s like a short or long distance stint. I’d love to be a Disney princess.”
She continued, playfully, “I could be a new one. Who knows? Like an animation. I would love to get into something animated.”
Whether Maldonado is starring on Broadway, touring with Pentatonix or following her dreams as a Disney princess, she has a lot on the horizon. But for now, she’s soaking up the experience of SIX and growing her love for musical theater all the more.
