‘Persona 5’ Is Coming to ‘Fortnite’

You may have seen this coming. Persona developer Atlus has officially teased that Fortnite‘s next season will include the hugely popular role-playing game Persona 5. The Fortnite Persona collaboration will be released as part of Chapter 7 Season 4, which is officially titled Override.

Override will be a Gaming Legends-themed season. Sonic the Hedgehog will also be part of Fortnite Override, as teased earlier this week. The short teaser posted by Atlus only lasts nine seconds, but it gives a brief look at Persona 5 protagonist Joker running through a futuristic map before mogging the camera. Further details on the upcoming season and what form the game crossovers will take will be announced by Epic Games at a later date, so stay tuned.

The collaboration will coincide with the 10-year anniversary of Persona 5‘s release. Since its initial release, the game has become a franchise of its own within the larger Persona series. The game has received an updated edition, an anime adaptation, and numerous spinoff titles. Persona 5 has also collaborated with several live-service titles over the last decade, which have been the source of much fan superstition.

The Persona 5 curse refers to the belief that when a live-service game has a crossover with the role-playing game, it dooms the live-service title to shut down within a year. Examples include Star Ocean: Anamnesis, Dragalia Lost, Sword Art Online: Memory Defrag, and Nier Reincarnation.

Of course, there are a number of games that have collaborated with Persona 5 and lived to tell the tale. Just look at Overwatch, Granblue Fantasy, and Another Eden, among others. Is there a curse? Or is Persona 5 just such a big property that every game wants to collaborate with it, including ones already near the end of their life? Who’s to say for sure? Still, is it possible the curse will come for Fortnite? Only time will tell… but probably not.
