A vintage Phil Collins hit is still making fans weep more than four decades after its release.
The singer’s official Instagram account posted a flashback video clip along with some historical facts about Collins’ 1984 hit, “Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now),” which was released 41 years ago on March 26.
“Originally a demo for “Face Value”, the song was never finished and left off the final tracklist until Phil was approached by director Taylor Hackford to create the theme song for the neo-noir film ‘Against All Odds.’
“Due to being on tour with @genesis_band at the time, Phil sent the unfinished track to Hackford who loved it and insisted he finish it for the film’s soundtrack,” the post reads.
“The song became one of Phil’s signature ballads and won him the 1985 #GRAMMY for Best Pop Vocal Performance,” it adds.
A clip from the song’s music video shows Collins performing the song in what looks like pouring rain as well as clips from the movie, which starred Jeff Bridges, Rachel Ward, James Woods and others.
Flashing back to the song brought some fans to tears. “I cry every time I hear this epic masterpiece,” wrote one fan.
“I can’t listen to this song without crying. It’s hauntingly beautiful. 😢,” another one added.
“One of the greatest song ever recorded! ❤️❤️🔥🔥,” another one added.
“How freaking good do you have to be to have an unfinished , throw-away track end up winning you a Grammy? THAT good.❤️🥁🇬🇧,” wrote another.
