Northeast Philly community gathers for vigil after deadly plane crash
Shaken Northeast Philly community is gathering for a prayer vigil after the deadly plane crash nearly a week ago.
PHILADELPHIA – A young girl fighting to survive, and a mom who was constantly by her side. Both lives were tragically taken when a plane crashed in Philadelphia last week, and now their heartbreaking story is being told by their community.
What we know:
Valentina Guzman Murillo, 11, and her mom, Lizeth Murillo Osuna, were both from Ensenada, a port city in Mexico.
The “frail” girl with several health challenges had just received months of emergency treatment at Shriner’s in Philadelphia for a pressure sore from her Spina Bifida condition.
“The plan was to bring them home to live out the rest of her life surrounded with love and with her adoring family,” said Susan Marie Fasino of His Wings Ranch, the organization which has been assisting the family for the past 5 years.
That’s when tragedy struck, and her medical transport plane came crashing down along Cottman Avenue, killing six people onboard, one on the ground, and injuring dozens more.
Dig deeper:
Valentina’s family fought to give the young girl the best life possible until her final moments.
“Her mother was one of the most adoring attentive mothers a child could ever have. She literally never left her side… She was deeply loved and adored. They lived every moment together, and they entered eternity together,” Fasino said in a Facebook post.
She also said Valentina’s mom had finally found some peace before the deadly crash.
“The last 6 months of her life she received the best medical care and her mom had peace knowing that she finally was getting the help she desperately fought for her whole life.”
