Planning to travel around Toronto this weekend? These closures could slow you down, Life in canada

13 June 20254 Mins Read

Take note, TTC riders and vehicle drivers — Toronto is about to get busy again this weekend with subway closures, street festivals, and a major road race.

There will be a 2 km section of the Line 2 Bloor-Danforth subway line closed over the weekend, while there will be more TTC diversions.

It’s been a hectic few weeks in the 6ix with thousands flocking to Do West Fest last weekend, and now we’re gearing up for another popular outdoor street festival.

Taste of Little Italy returns to College Street from Friday to Sunday. The annual street festival is expected to attract up to 250,000 visitors.

On Saturday, the Canada Running Series hosts the Under Armour Toronto 10K, which will see over 8,000 runners compete.

Whether you’re commuting, heading to an event, or just trying to get across town, here’s a full breakdown of what to expect.

No TTC subway service on a section of Line 2

The TTC has announced that subway services will be suspended on Line 2 Bloor-Danforth between Jane and Keele stations for one day only — Saturday, June 14 — to allow for planned signal upgrades.

Shuttle buses will run frequently and stop at every station between the closures. Runnymede and High Park stations will be closed, but the rest in that section will remain open for fare purchases and transfers to surface routes.

Wheel-Trans service is available, just ask a TTC staff member for help.

Taste of Little Italy is back and it’s bringing road closures with it

Toronto’s annual Taste of Little Italy festival returns from Friday, June 13, to Sunday, June 15, and organizers expect around 250,000 people to attend.

The three-day street festival will take over College Street with live entertainment, food vendors, and cultural events celebrating Toronto’s Italian community.

Toronto police say, College Street will be closed from Shaw Street to Bathurst Street beginning Friday at 3 p.m. and reopens on Monday, June 16 at 3 a.m.

Taste of Little Italy’s festival hours are:

  • Friday: 7 p.m. to 1 a.m.
  • Saturday: 11 a.m. to 1 a.m.
  • Sunday: 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

TTC service will not operate within the closure zone during festival hours. The 506/306 Carlton streetcars will divert onto Dundas Street between Ossington Avenue and Bathurst Street from 3 p.m. on Friday until 3 a.m. on Monday.

Drivers should expect delays and consider alternate routes or taking public transport wherever possible.

The Under Armour Toronto 10K will cause disruption to traffic

The Canada Running Series is hosting the Under Armour Toronto 10K on Saturday, bringing over 8,000 runners to the waterfront. An additional 250 children will be participating in an 800-metre race.

The event will take place in the Lakeshore Boulevard West area near Exhibition Place.

Toronto police have announced the following road closures will be in effect from 4 a.m. to approximately 11:30 a.m.:

  • Lakeshore Boulevard from Bathurst Street to Windermere Avenue.
  • Fort York Boulevard between Fleet Street and Lakeshore Boulevard West.
  • Strachan Avenue between Fleet Street and Lakeshore Boulevard West.

However, there will be local access exceptions:

  • Access to Sunnyside Park, Palais Royale, The Boulevard Club, The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 344 and the Toronto Argonaut Rowing Club will be available via the eastbound curb lane on Lakeshore Boulevard West from Windermere Avenue to Net Drive.
  • Access to HMCS York, Coronation Park and Ontario Place will be available via Stadium Road across Remembrance Drive.

The TTC 80 Queensway buses will divert along Roncesvalles Avenue on Saturday from 4 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. due to the race.

TTC bus reroutes this weekend

  • 102 Markham Road buses will reroute via Wootten Way North on Sunday, June 15, from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. for Markham Cycling Day.
  • The 87 Cosburn (westbound) is detouring until Sunday, June 22, due to roadworks at Cosburn and Oak Park.
  • Due to bike lane construction, the 121 Esplanade-River (eastbound) is skipping stops on The Esplanade until Thursday, July 26.
  • The 94 Wellesley (eastbound) is rerouting via Bloor Street and Spadina Avenue until Wednesday, August 16.
  • To accommodate TTC infrastructure work and city sewer repairs, the 512/312 St. Clair, 33 Forest Hill, 90 Vaughan, and 126 Christie will all divert on Thursday, June 12, from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. and Friday, June 13, from 8 p.m. to Saturday at 5 a.m.

Whether you’re hitting up a festival, running in a race, or just trying to get across town, it’s a good idea to check your route in advance and give yourself some extra time.

Best of luck beating that traffic, Toronto!
