Pokémon Go ‘Flying Taxi: Taken Over’ event guide

Pokémon Go’s “Flying Taxi” event runs from June 23-29, introducing the pompadour bird Pokémon, Squawkabilly, to the game. As usual, this event is full of different perks, including boosted spawns, and a special Go Pass built around the event.

As of June 25, this is now a Team Go Rocket Takeover event with the usual perks: Team Go Rocket members appear more frequently, you can use Charged TMs to replace the move Frustration on Shadow Pokémon, and Pokémon caught from one- and three-star shadow raids will have a wider variance in stats.

As a reminder, there is no new Special Research that rewards you with the Super Rocket Radar to battle Giovanni. You need to pay for or complete this event’s Go Pass to get one.

How to catch Squawkabilly in Pokémon Go

As part of the “Flying Taxi” event, Squawkabilly has made its Pokémon Go debut. During the event, you can nab this stylish bird the following ways:

• Find Squawkabilly in the wild.
• Complete Field Research Tasks to unlock encounters with yellow, blue, or green Squawkabilly.
• Reach level 60 in the Go Pass: Flying Taxi to get a white Squawkabilly. If you buy the upgraded version of the pass, you’ll get an additional white Squawkabilly encounter.

Note that while the white and yellow versions of Squawkabilly can be found globally, the blue and green versions are regional forms. Blue Squawkabilly can only be found in the Western Hemisphere and Green Squawkabilly can only be found in the Eastern Hemisphere.

Pokémon Go ‘Flying Taxi’ event Go Pass

This event features a Go Pass with 60 ranks. Notably, you can earn a Super Rocket Radar, Mysterious Components, and an encounter with a white Squawkabilly from the pass just by playing the game normally. You’ll earn points towards the pass for winning raids, catching Pokémon, and hatching eggs. As part of the event, you can also amass 100 extra points by catching 10 flying-type Pokémon daily.

There are two milestone perks to unlock as well:

• Rank 10: 2x catch candy
• Rank 20: 2x Stardust from Team Go Rocket battles

As mentioned above, you can also opt to pay $4.99 to upgrade to the deluxe pass, which unlocks an additional Super Rocket Radar, an encounter with Hisuian Braviary, and some other goodies.

Pokémon Go ‘Flying Taxi’ event Field Research and rewards

Spinning a PokéStop during the event period may yield one of these tasks:

• Catch 5 flying-type Pokémon (Yellow Squawkabilly encounter)
• Catch 10 flying-type Pokémon (Blue or green Squawkabilly encounter)
• Catch 15 flying-type Pokémon (White Squawkabilly encounter)
• Evolve 3 flying-type Pokémon (Spearow or Wattrel encounter)
• Power up flying-type Pokémon 5 times (Hoothoot or Rookidee encounter)

As part of the Team Rocket Takeover, these Field Research are also available:

• Defeat a Team Go Rocket grunt (1 Mysterious Component)
• Purify 3 shadow Pokémon (1 Fast TM or Charged TM)
