Aside from the game’s announcement and starter reveal, 2026 has been a remarkably dry year for fans eager for more Pokémon Winds and Waves news. With little concrete info about Game Freak’s 2027 Pokémon game, fans are entertaining claims by so-called leakers. And these supposed insiders keep coming back to one thing: Seed Pokémon.
We’ve known about Seed Pokémon since 2025, after data miners sifted through an old data breach that seemingly revealed Game Freak’s overarching business plan. The data cache reportedly contained unreleased concept art, design documents, and release plans.
The veracity of this data was never fully ascertained, especially when it came to sensitive company information like development budgets. The leak also referred to plans made years ago, which could change or be dropped altogether. Still, a shocking number of claims contained in the leak turned out to be true. One of them turned out to be the existence of Pokémon Winds and Waves, an installment which at the time had not been announced yet.
What are Seed Pokémon in Winds and Waves?
So if this leak correctly predicted the name, logo, and overarching premise of a Pokémon game before it was released, what others might prove true? Among other things, fans became fixated on the mention of something called Seed Pokémon. Here’s how the documents describe them:
A baby Pokémon of the Seed species that can be found in resort areas …. it is a rare sight in this land, and no one has ever seen it in its evolved form. When it travels to the island where the main legendary resides, it begins to evolve. Its evolved appearance is said to have infinite variations.
Further leaks claimed that players would start the game with Seed Pokémon, and their development was designed to influence other aspects of the game. Rumors noted that Winds and Waves would have some element of random island generation, and that Seed Pokémon could somehow alter what that would look like. Said Pokémon were said to come in “infinite variations” which could sport different types of patterns. The leaks also tied Seed Pokémon to the game’s legendaries, which apparently impacted how the new monster type evolves.
More recent purported leaks allege that the latest build of the game includes over 300 new Pokémon, a mix of brand-new Pokémon and new forms. When combined with older monsters, Winds and Waves is expected to have the highest number of obtainable Pokémon in the main franchise. The caveat: If these numbers are legit, we don’t know how many of those slots are Seed Pokémon variants. This could be a case like that of Alcremie, which technically has 64 visual variants that all belong to the same creature.
The information, which stems from legit data breaches and a host of self-described Pokémon leakers, is hard to navigate. Some leakers have track records, but have also been caught sharing untrue information. Leakers also claim that plans for Winds and Waves have changed during development. We don’t know how or where these leakers are sourcing their information.
What are the latest rumors and leaks for Seed Pokémon?
Another silly wrinkle here is that leakers aren’t always forthcoming. New information is sometimes disseminated in cryptic ways, like crude graphics that show a bizarre mix of images. Fans assume leakers do this to prevent copyright takedowns or protect their sources. There have indeed been times when a pictorial riddle started to make sense after official information was revealed. With a drought of official Winds and Waves news, many new leaks can’t immediately be disproven. The only thing fans can do is speculate. Fittingly, the latest “leak” appears to be about Seed Pokémon.
The pictures suggest there is a connection between Seed Pokémon and the games’ apparent weather mechanics. Does the weather determine how a seed Pokémon evolves? If the new legendaries impact the weather, what does that mean for Seed Pokémon? Can the weather lead to the events of Pokopia?!?!
Until Game Freak releases more information, we can’t know. It’s fun to think about what Seed Pokémon will be— if they make it into the game at all.
Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves are slated for release on Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027.
