Food recalls are never fun to deal with, but they’re a necessary step in making sure our overall health and safety are protected. When you hear your favorite snack is being recalled ahead of the holidays, simply checking your labels can be the difference between a festive Christmas experience and one spent with an upset stomach—or worse, an injury.
Expanding on an initial announcement from November 26, Silvestri Sweets Inc. of Geneva, IL, is recalling its 5-ounce bags of Choceur-branded Holiday Barks due to undeclared allergens. As stated last month, the recalled items put consumers at risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if eaten.

Products Included in the Recall
Aldi
The two snacks identified in the recall are Choceur-branded Cookie Butter Holiday Bark and Pecan, Cranberry & Cinnamon Holiday Bark. According to the FDA notice, the Cookie Butter bark may contain undeclared pecans, while the Pecan, Cranberry & Cinnamon bark may contain undeclared wheat. Even more concerning, these products were distributed nationwide through Aldi grocery stores and may still be in consumers’ homes.
Because each holiday bark variety fails to list the proper ingredients, consumers with allergies to pecans or wheat are at the highest risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they eat the products. And with Christmas here, the last thing anyone needs is a frightening medical emergency related to their favorite snack.

What to Do If You Have the Recalled Snacks
Fortunately, no illnesses have been reported so far, but shoppers are still urged to check their pantries and reference the lot numbers above. The expanded recall came after it was discovered that Pecan, Cranberry & Cinnamon Holiday Bark was accidentally packaged in Cookie Butter Holiday Bark bags, exposing undeclared pecans. The mix-up appears to be the result of a temporary issue in the company’s production and packaging process and is still being rectified.
That said, anyone who has purchased the recalled products should discard them entirely or return to Aldi for a refund. Those with further questions can reach out to Silvestri Sweets at 1-630-232-2500 (Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. CST) or via email at [email protected].
