Possible Rodent Hair Contamination Prompts Recall of Popular Aldi Product

17 March 20263 Mins Read

Grocery recalls are never fun to read about, but every so often, one catches shoppers off guard—especially when it involves a product many people keep stocked in their freezer for quick meals or easy snacks. This latest alert centers on a widely loved Aldi find that’s often praised for its convenience and veggie-forward ingredients.

Simply Nature Spinach Bites, sold at Aldi under its popular Simply Nature line, is being pulled from shelves. According to a recall notice from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the frozen bites may be contaminated with rodent hair. The recall was initiated voluntarily by the manufacturer, Dr. Praeger’s Sensible Foods Inc., and is currently ongoing.

What to Know About the Recall

Aldi

The affected product comes in 12-ounce boxes of frozen spinach bites, typically found in Aldi’s freezer section. The recall specifically impacts certain lots distributed in Maryland and Pennsylvania, though it’s always a good idea for shoppers elsewhere to double-check packaging if they’ve recently purchased the item.

The issue was classified as a Class II recall, which means the product could cause temporary or medically reversible health effects, but the risk of serious health consequences is considered low. Still, contamination concerns of any kind are taken seriously, and consumers are advised not to eat the product if they believe they have an affected package at home.

If you do find a matching lot number, the safest move is to dispose of the product or return it to your local store for a refund, depending on store policy. Since the recall is ongoing, more updates could follow as the situation develops.

Why Shoppers Are Paying Attention

Simply Nature Spinach Bites have built a loyal following among Aldi shoppers, especially parents looking for quick, veggie-packed options that kids will actually eat. They’re often seen as easy side dishes or snacks to keep on hand, which makes this recall particularly relevant for everyday households.

Because the product is frozen and designed for convenience, many shoppers may have it sitting in their freezers without a second thought. That’s why recalls like this can be easy to miss unless you’re actively checking notices.

For now, shoppers who regularly buy frozen snacks or Simply Nature products may want to take a quick look through their freezer. It only takes a minute to check—and it could save you from an unpleasant surprise later on.
