Three-time Emmy award-winning actress Julia Garner, best known for Ozark will star alongside Anthony Boyle in Netflix’s new limited series, The Altruists. The 8-part series wrapped production in November 2025, and we have some first looks from the set. Here’s an updated guide to everything we know so far about The Alruists on Netflix.

The Altruists is an upcoming Netflix Original limited series with Graham Moore and Jacqueline Hoyt as co-showrunners and executive producers. It was first announced on May 2nd, 2025. It has been confirmed that James Ponsoldt will direct the first episode. Meanwhile, Vinnie Malhotra and Jessie Dicovitsky will serve as executive producers for Higher Ground Productions, alongside Scoop Wasserstein for New York Magazine/Vox Media Studios, Tonia Davis, Lauren Morelli, and Garner. Upon the official announcement of the show, Graham Moore had the following to say about the series:

“For nearly three years now, Sam and Caroline’s story has been my daily obsession. I’m so grateful to my friends at Netflix and Higher Ground for loving this story not only as much as I do, but in the same way that I do. And we can’t wait to show all of you why.”

What is the plot of The Altruists?

Netflix has provided a synopsis for The Altruists:

“Tells the story of Sam Bankman-Fried and Caroline Ellison, two hyper-smart, ambitious young idealists who tried to remake the global financial system in the blink of an eye — and then seduced, coaxed, and teased each other into stealing $8 billion.”

Who are the cast members of The Altruists?

Julia Garner plays Caroline Ellison. The actress is famously known for her role as Ruth Langmore in Ozark, for which she won three Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. She also starred in the Netflix limited series Inventing Anna. Garner will also star as the Silver Surfer in the MCU’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

Anthony Boyle plays Sam Bankman-Fried. The actor is most well-known for starring in Masters of the Air, Manhunt, and Say Nothing. He will star as Arthur Guinness in Netflix’s upcoming historical drama House of Guinness.

As we first reported, Greta Carew Johns is also in the series. As of now, she’s playing an unknown role, though from the pictures, she could be playing a love interest. The Australian-born actress is known for roles in Supergirl, A Million Little Things, and Meeting Mr. Christmas.

Filming for the series began on July 1, 2025, and concluded on November 24, 2025. The show is filming in Vancouver and was codenamed “Untitled Love Story”.

On July 2nd, just a day after filming had commenced, we got a bunch of first-look photos of Anthony Boyle on the set of the series in full SBF get-up with a checkered shirt and his signature curly hair.

Soon after, we got our first look at Julia Garner, courtesy of BackGrid (full set on Instagram here), with Garner in full makeup, including a prosthetic nose, while sporting thick glasses. It’s said that in the scene, she appeared to be flirting with Bankman-Fried in an office lunch area.
