Priceline’s 2026 “Where to Next?” report highlights emerging travel trends, emphasizing spontaneity, exploration, and the influence of younger generations on travel decisions.

Priceline has released its 2026 “Where to Next?” Travel Trends Report, which outlines significant shifts in travel behaviors and preferences. The report, based on a combination of proprietary data and a comprehensive traveler survey, identifies key trends that are expected to shape the travel landscape in 2026.

Emerging Travel Trends

A blend of spontaneity and intentional planning characterizes the 2026 travel scene. According to the report, travelers are increasingly indulging in impromptu trips and seeking new experiences in both familiar and novel destinations. Key trends identified include:

Little Treat Travel: This trend sees travelers indulging in small luxuries and spontaneous trips as a way to boost mood and enjoy life’s little pleasures.

Midwest Quests: The Midwest is emerging as a popular destination, with its unique mix of cultural attractions and natural beauty drawing more visitors.

DéjàView: A sense of nostalgia is driving travelers to revisit childhood destinations, blending past memories with new experiences.

Expedition Beach: Traditional beach vacations are being redefined with adventure activities like hiking and water sports becoming central to the beach experience.

Tailgate Tourism: College sports events are turning into major travel occasions, with fans combining game days with extended stays in college towns.

Kidfluence: Younger family members are having a greater influence on travel planning, with destinations and activities increasingly catering to their preferences.

Dead Zoning: In an effort to disconnect from work and digital distractions, travelers are choosing destinations that offer true escapes from daily routines.

Traveler Insights and Spending

The report also provides insights into traveler behavior and spending patterns. On average, travelers are planning to spend 15 days on leisure travel in 2026, with budgets increasing by approximately $350. This uptick in travel spending reflects a broader enthusiasm for richer, more engaging travel experiences.

Methodology

The findings of the “Where to Next?” report are based on a survey conducted by Current Forward on behalf of Priceline. The survey included responses from 3,006 U.S. adults who traveled at least 100 miles from home in the past year. The data was further enriched with insights from Priceline’s proprietary search and booking information.
