This evening at Meridian Hall, the Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts (TAPA) announced the recipients of the 46th annual Dora Awards, celebrating local theatre, dance, and opera.
Many of the results match those of the 2026 Toronto Theatre Critics’ Awards, announced last month. Theatre Passe Muraille’s solo show Through the Eyes of God and the Canadian premiere of the a capella musical Octet again took home prizes for outstanding production. Other overlaps include awards for Nicolas Billon’s play The Neighbours at Tarragon, Sophia Walker’s performance in Slave Play at Canadian Stage, Nick Eddie’s performance in Bug at the King Black Box, the ensemble’s performance in The Division at Crow’s, and Bonnie Beecher’s lighting design for The Welkin at Soulpepper.
It was a big Doras night for Melanie McNeill, who won outstanding costume design in both the general theatre and independent theatre divisions.
In addition to its three nominations in the musical theatre divisions, Shifting Ground Collective won the Jon Kaplan Audience Choice Award, decided by the public, for the second year in a row — this time for its production of The Drowsy Chaperone.
Shows produced by Mirvish Productions remain absent from the Dora Awards because the company withdrew from TAPA in 2023.
