Prostate Cancer Survivor Al Roker Sends Clear Message to Joe Biden Amid Diagnosis

18 May 20252 Mins Read

Al Roker is sending his support to Joe Biden amid the former president’s recent diagnosis with prostate cancer, an illness that hits close to home for the Today show weatherman.

Shortly after news broke on Sunday, May 18, that Biden, 82, has been diagnosed with an “aggressive” form of prostate cancer, Roker spoke out on social media to send his best wishes to the politician while looking back on his own battle with the disease.

While sharing a trio of Instagram photos featuring Biden and his wife Dr. Jill Biden on Sunday evening, Roker, 70, wrote, “Sending out prayers and a good outcome for President @joebiden after hearing about his #prostatecancer diagnosis.”

“Having gone through it myself, I have an understanding of what he and his family is going through,” Roker added in his caption.

The daytime TV personality was diagnosed with prostate cancer back in 2020, after a routine physical and blood screening showed “elevated prostate-specific antigen.” He consequently underwent surgery, and was back to work on the Today show just over two weeks later.

Biden’s diagnosis was announced in a statement from the former POTUS’ personal office on Sunday, revealing that he had officially been diagnosed two days prior.

“Last week, President Joe Biden was seen for a new finding of a prostate nodule after experiencing increasing urinary symptoms. On Friday, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, characterized by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone,” the statement read.

“While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive which allows for effective management,” the president’s office continued, while noting that Biden and his family are now “reviewing treatment options with his physicians.”
