‘Real Housewives of Beverly Hills’ Star’s Ex-Husband Teases Possible Run for LA Mayor

The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills’Kyle Richards’ ex, Mauricio Umansky, may have something in common with another reality TV show star’s husband. And it isn’t what you think.

Move over, Spencer Pratt, there’s a new reality star/mayoral hopeful in town—and he’s “going to make LA great again.” Laguna Beach and The Hills alum Heidi Montag’s other half, Spencer Pratt, now-famously ran for mayor of Los Angeles. While critics roasted the MTV villain, Pratt came close to winning a bid for a fall runoff race. But now it looks like he’s not the only Hollywood hubby who wants to jump from the small screen to political office. 

Umansky is already a serious success in his field. Sure, most people know him from Bravo’s RHOBH or Netflix’s Buying Beverly Hills. But even without reality shows, Umansky still has it all. He’s the founder and CEO of The Agency, a luxury real estate brokerage in Los Angeles. 

Umansky recently appeared on ‘The Money News Network,’ talking to host Nicole Lapin about reality TV, real estate, and running for mayor.

When Lapin asked Umansky if a career in politics is in his future, he revealed, “I’m not running for mayor yet.” But that doesn’t mean he’s ruling it out. “I never say never. Maybe one day. I’ve thought about it a lot, but not yet.”   

Umansky continued, explaining his views, “I’m a registered independent. And I believe in the middle. I think we’ve lost the middle. I think it’s kind of gone, which is sad. Where everything is just so extremist right now. And I think we need to start making a push more for finding balance and finding that middle again.”

Lapin asked, “I’m an LA Voter. Why should I vote for you?”

“Because I’m going to make LA great again….That’s so perfect,” replied Umansky. “Well look, we need to do a lot of things. We need to do a lot of great things for LA. So look, on the financial side, I’m definitely more on the Republican side. I do believe in, I still believe, I mean, Reagan was an LA guy and an LA native, and I do believe in Reaganomics” 

He went on, sharing his ideas, “It’s not only about the trickle down, but it’s about we need to bring businesses back. We need to bring employment back. We need to bring innovation back. We need to keep Hollywood. We’ve lost so much of Hollywood. Like, we need to give Hollywood Incentives. Like, I’m not in Hollywood business. This is not benefiting me. But I can tell you one thing that would put Los Angeles on the map was television and movies. 

When Lapin asked Umansky, “Did you vote for Spencer?” he answered candidly with, “I did.” 

So is Kyle’s ex the future mayor of LA? The real estate mogul had this to say: “It’s a major commitment and it’s also very difficult to run against the Democratic Party in Los Angeles.”
