Rebecca Gayheart Honors Eric Dane on First Father's Day Since His Death: 'I Hurt for My Girls Today'

Rebecca Gayheart kept Eric Dane close to her heart on Father’s Day as she and the Grey’s Anatomy actor’s two daughters marked the first holiday milestone since his death in February.

The Beverly Hills, 90210alum, 54, took to her Instagram Stories on Sunday, June 21, to honor the late Euphoria star, who died in February at age 53, less than a year after being diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

Sharing a photo of Dane with their two daughters, Billie, 16, and Georgia, 14, Gayheart wrote, “I hurt for my girls today.”

She continued, “It’s a ‘first’ of many to come. I know Eric is looking out for them every day.”

Dane and Gayheart tied the knot in 2003 and separated in 2018, but in March 2025, the Jawbreaker star withdrew her divorce petition, and she cared for Dane throughout his ALS diagnosis.

Just weeks after Dane’s death, Gayheart told Varietythat she and her family were “in a state of shock” to lose him.

“I just want to thank everybody for being so kind to us during the last couple of years. It’s been challenging and meaningful, and people are kind,” the actress said at the time, thanking her supporters for all of the love they had shown her since Dane’s passing.

A week later, Gayheart remembered Dane with a sweet video montage on Instagram, which she captioned, “There are no words. All our love forever — your girls.”

Prior to Dane’s death, he secretly recorded a special for Netflix as part of their new series, Famous Last Words, which he dedicated to his two daughters.

“Billie and Georgia, these words are for you,” the star began his final interview segment. “I tried. I stumbled sometimes, but I tried. Overall, we had a blast, didn’t we?”

After sharing his advice for their futures, Dane concluded, “I hope I’ve demonstrated that you can face anything. You can face the end of your days. You can face hell with dignity. Fight girls, and hold your heads high. Billie and Georgia, you are my heart. You are my everything. Good night. I love you. Those are my last words.”
