Red Dead Redemption coming to Switch 2, PS5, and Xbox Series X with enhancements

13 November 20252 Mins Read

Rockstar Games is giving fans an upgraded version of Red Dead Redemption to ease the wait for Grand Theft Auto 6. The iconic 2010 Western-themed action-adventure game is coming to a host of new platforms, including your Netflix account.

In December, the original Red Dead Redemption game will be released on Android, iOS, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X. This is the first time the game is being released natively on all of these platforms, though you could previously play the PS4, Switch, and Xbox 360 versions of Red Dead Redemption through backward compatibility.

However, this new version of the game is introducing a slew of updates that should make it shine bright. For the PS5 and Xbox Series X releases, gameplay will run at 60 frames per second and include HDR support, enhanced image quality, and up to 4K resolution. While 4K was previously possible on the PS5 when playing the backward compatible version of the game, it will be standard with the upgrade.

For Switch 2, players will get mouse controls, 60 FPS gameplay, and support for DLSS and HDR. Meanwhile, iOS and Android versions have been augmented to use mobile-friendly controls.

If you’ve already purchased Red Dead Redemption, hold your horses. Those who own the game on PS4, Switch, or the version that was available to play on Xbox One will be getting the upgrade at no extra charge. If you purchased it on the Xbox 360 or PS3, it seems you are out of luck.

And then there’s Netflix, where the mobile version of Red Dead Redemption will be available to Netflix subscribers. Lastly, on Dec. 2, the updated game will be available to subscribers of PlayStation Plus or GTA Plus.
