Ree Drummond’s daughter Alex provided new insight on the name she and her husband, Mauricio Scott, chose for their first child, who is due to arrive in early 2025.
The eldest daughter of The Pioneer Woman host revealed last month that she and Mauricio settled on the name Sofia for their baby girl. In an “Ask Me Anything” session on Instagram Stories on Friday, Nov. 1, Alex explained the reason behind the name choice, though she noted there “isn’t really much context or background.”

“Long story short, we just loved the name,” Alex, 27, said. “We wanted to pick a name that sounded beautiful in English and Spanish, and so we went with Sofia with an ‘f,’ because an ‘f’ is the Hispanic spelling.”
Though the first-time parents “had a few others in the running,” the name they settled on “was always kind of at the top of our list.”
“We both just kind of knew that Sofia was the name,” she added.

Alex later responded to a fan-submitted question asking if she and Mauricio plan to raise their daughter to speak Spanish. Alex explained that her husband moved to the U.S. from Mexico when he was in fourth or fifth grade and grew up speaking Spanish, with English as his second language. “A lot of his family still speaks Spanish,” she said. “We’re definitely going to raise Sofia to speak Spanish.”
As Alex previously revealed, she and her husband also picked “Marie” as their unborn daughter’s middle name. Alex’s middle name and her Food Network star mother both have “Marie” as their middle names, “so we carried that over,” she said.
“We love Sofia Scott, too, like we love the double ’S.’ So that was also one of the reasons why we picked it,” she continued.
As of Nov. 1, Alex said she was 32 weeks along, with her baby due on Jan. 2. However, “recently my doctor has expressed doubt in actually making it to my due date” due to the high blood pressure Alex has experienced during her pregnancy.
“It’s looking like baby girl might be here before Christmas. So we’ll see,” she said, adding that “November feels safe,” but “once we get to December, it’s going to be, like, crunch time.”
