Ricky Gervais is clearly making the most of his time in Toronto before his show by visiting some of the city’s most iconic spots.
The legendary comedian, writer, and actor is currently in the city for the latest stop of his Mortality world tour, where he’ll perform to a packed Scotiabank Arena on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. But before stepping on stage, he’s been out exploring some seriously Toronto things.
First up, he ticked off something you must do when in the 6ix: visit the Toronto Islands. Gervais posted a beaming selfie on social media of himself on a boat heading over to the islands with the CN Tower in the background.
“Got a couple of days off in Toronto before I play (at) the humongous Scotiabank Arena. Off to The Islands,” he wrote.
Like most people who land on the islands for the first time, Gervais was presumably blown away by its beauty and tranquillity.
He shared a photo of his partner, Jane, on one of the Toronto Islands’ many scenic walking trails. He called the islands one of his “favourite places in the world,” and even had time for a cheeky joke at Jane’s expense.
“I think The Islands in Toronto is one of my favourite places in the world,” he wrote. “I spotted Jane there with all her friends. (I got caught).”
Then came a trip to the LCBO. Not just any LCBO, though. Gervais posed outside the sprawling liquor store in the North Toronto railway station. Built in 1916, it is renowned for its Beaux-Arts style, characterized by a distinctive clock tower reminiscent of those found in Europe. It was closed to passengers in 1930, and is now an LCBO.
“Now that’s what I call a liquor store!” he said.
Of course, he couldn’t resist swinging by Scotiabank Arena to scope out the venue ahead of tomorrow night’s show.
“Popped into Scotiabank Arena. Mental. See you Thursday,” he teased, adding to the anticipation for his Toronto gig.
Between boat rides, island strolls, and liquor store admiration, Gervais seems to be fully leaning into Toronto life. And if his Instagram and X feeds are anything to go by, he’s having just as much fun here as the crowd will have when the lights go down and the jokes start flying.
