Robert Irwin wants to follow in the footsteps of his parents and his older sister Bindi Irwin — but not in the way you’d think!
While the 21-year-old conservationist has already become an integral part of the Australia Zoo like the rest of his family, he says he’s now hoping to find love in the same way his parents did — by dating an American tourist!
If you’re not familiar with his family history, Robert’s parents, Steve and Terri Irwin, met while Terri was taking a trip to Australia. She bumped into Steve when she visited the reptile park where he worked.

“My mum was an American tourist. Came over from Oregon. She went into a little roadside reptile park, met a bloke in khaki shorts that was feeding a crocodile and the rest is history,” Robert shared in a video for Tourism Australia.
Robert’s older sister Bindi also married an American tourist, meeting her husband Chandler Powell while he was visiting the Australia Zoo. Now, Robert says it’s his turn.
“I’m waiting for my American tourist. When’s she coming?” Robert asked in a video as part of Australia’s Come and Say G’Day campaign.
He continued, “You know, I talked about how my mum and dad met here. Mum came over here thinking it’d be a good place to visit and then 25 years later, here we are. Same story with my sister actually.”
While Robert may be busy with Dancing With The Stars at the moment, he’s not dating anyone. And although he’s currently single, he says he’s ready for a relationship.
“It’s funny, I’m at this point in my life where I’m like, I’m so open to [a relationship], but I’m just waiting for the stars to align,” he shared with PEOPLE earlier this year.
