Rock Legend Unveils Exclusive One-Day Theatrical Event

One of music’s most influential figures is bringing his story back to the big screen—but only briefly.

Paul McCartney has announced a one-day-only global theatrical release for Man on the Run, a new documentary exploring his creative rebirth in the years following the breakup of The Beatles. The film will screen in cinemas worldwide for a single night on Thursday, February 19, giving fans a rare opportunity to experience the project in theaters.

McCartney shared the news on social media, revealing that the theatrical screenings will also include a bonus filmed conversation between himself and the film’s director, Morgan Neville, created exclusively for cinema audiences.

Directed by Neville, Man on the Run examines McCartney’s transformative decade after The Beatles’ split, beginning with the release of his 1970 solo album McCartney and continuing through the rise of Wings. Rather than focusing on stadium triumphs alone, the film centers on a more vulnerable chapter in McCartney’s life, when he was navigating uncertainty, reinvention, and the challenge of stepping out from the shadow of the world’s most famous band.

According to the film’s official description, Man on the Run captures McCartney’s journey through stunning archival footage, late wife Linda McCartney’s photographs, and interviews with family members and musical peers. Contributors include Mary and Stella McCartney (Paul and Linda’s two oldest children together), John Lennon’s sonSean Ono Lennon, Mick Jagger, Chrissie Hynde and members of Wings, alongside McCartney himself. Together, they help frame a period that reshaped his career and ultimately led to one of rock’s most enduring second acts.

The documentary will be released theatrically by Trafalgar Releasing, with screenings scheduled in select territories around the world. Tickets go on sale Wednesday, February 4, with participating cinemas and listings available via the film’s official website. Each theatrical screening will include the exclusive McCartney-Neville conversation, offering additional insight into the film’s creation and McCartney’s mindset during the era it explores.

Following its limited theatrical run, Man on the Run will become available for streaming on Prime Video beginning February 27, where it will be accessible in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.

Produced by Tremolo in association with MPL Communications and Polygram Entertainment, the film lists Neville, Chloe Simmons, and Meghan Walsh among its producers, with McCartney serving as an executive producer. While the documentary’s availability will soon expand to home viewing, its one-day theatrical release offers a fleeting chance for fans to experience the story communally—on the big screen—before it moves to streaming.
