Rogers and Fido mobile users in Canada can expect price hike in April

17 March 20252 Mins Read

Rogers and Fido customers may have higher wireless bills in April as the company increases prices to support “investments.”

A Fido customer took to Reddit to share a picture of a notice they received from the Rogers flanker brand detailing a $3/mo price hike starting in April.

“We continuously invest in our network to bring you the best mobile experience in Canada. To help support these investments, we will be increasing the monthly fee for your mobile plan (as set out on this invoice beside ‘Monthly charges’ for this wireless line) by $3 (plus taxes), starting with your next bill, on or after April 8, 2025,” reads the notice from Fido.

Reddit

Another Reddit user replied to the post, noting they saw a similar price increase on their Rogers line, with each line increasing by $3.50/mo. The Redditor said they called Rogers about the increase, but when the company refused to do anything about it, they switched their lines to Freedom Mobile.

Update March 17, 2025, at 2:11 p.m. EST: Rogers confirmed that it’s raising prices by $1-$3 per month but said the “vast majority” of customers aren’t impacted.

However, this is only the latest round of rate plan increases from Rogers. In October 2024, Rogers and Fido hit customers with price hikes as high as $5/mo, though at the time, Rogers claimed the average increase was “less than $4.”

Also in October, Rogers was heavily criticized over a “bait and switch” price increase on TV box rentals.

More recently, Rogers jacked the connection fee it charges when customers sign up for mobile service to $75. The company also raised roaming rates right before March Break.

Meanwhile, Rogers just laid off roughly 400 customer support workers and threatened a lockout of former Shaw employees amid failing bargaining negotiations.

But while Rogers raises prices and cuts staff, the company reported increased revenue and net income. Rogers’ Q4 2024 results, released last month, show a 2 per cent increase in total service revenue to $4.54 billion and adjusted net income up 26 per cent to $794 million for the quarter.

The average revenue per user (ARPU) for Rogers’ wireless business was also up slightly from $57.96 in Q4 2023 to $58.04 in Q4 2024.
