Hotel del Coronado has announced the completion of a comprehensive $550 million restoration of its Victorian building, marking the end of a property-wide renovation.
The Hotel del Coronado has finalized the restoration of its historic Victorian building, a significant part of a larger $550 million renovation project managed by Blackstone Real Estate. This extensive restoration included the hotel’s front porch, lobby, main entry, and drive experience. All Victorian guestrooms, the garden courtyard, and event spaces such as the Crown Room have been updated and enhanced.
The project also introduced two new dining venues, Nobu Del Coronado and Veranda, enhancing the hotel’s culinary offerings. Nobu Del Coronado offers a blend of Chef Nobu Matsuhisa’s signature dishes with local flavors, while Veranda offers al fresco dining with ocean views.
The restoration aimed to maintain historical accuracy while integrating modern comforts. The design teams, including Wimberly Interiors in partnership with WATG, and GSB Inc., focused on preserving the Victorian era’s unique architectural and design elements. The guest rooms now feature brighter floral textiles, woven vinyl raffia headboards, and classic checkerboard marble flooring in the bathrooms, among other updates.
Significant attention was given to the Victorian Garden Courtyard, where the original design, including historic walkways and pergolas, was restored. The courtyard also saw the return of the Naiad Queen Fountain, a bronze reproduction of Charles Cordier’s statue, reinstating a historic feature lost in 1912.
The renovation extended to the entire resort beyond the Victorian building. This included the launch of Serẽa Coastal Cuisine, the addition of Shore House at LXR Hotels & Resorts, and the new Southpointe event center, which features a 15,000-square-foot ballroom. The Ocean Club and a full renovation of Beach Village at LXR Hotels & Resorts were also part of the updates.
The project transformed the physical property and had a significant economic impact, creating over 300 resort jobs and numerous construction-related positions throughout the renovation period.
