Sarah Jessica Parker Finally Says What We Were All Thinking About Big and Carrie

28 May 20253 Mins Read

Sarah Jessica Parker opens up about how she sees Big and Carrie’s relationship on Sex and the City & And Just Like That…, and it lines up with what many fans think about the pairing.

With season 3 of And Just Like That… set to premiere on May 29, 2025, series star, Sara Jessica Parker, who plays Carrie Bradshaw, sat down with her longtime friend Bruce Bozzi for a segment on The E! News Sitdown With Bruce Bozzi. During their conversation, Parker opened up about her feelings on Carrie and Big’s (Chris Noth) relationship that spanned the entire run of Sex & the City and ended with Big’s tragic death in the first episode of its spin-off, And Just Like That….

“Big dying was really, really hard to do both professionally and personally,” Parker said, “That’s not just a thread. It’s one of the main arteries that you would struggle to do without.” While talking about working with Noth for the 6 seasons of SATC and the two movies it spawned, Parker confided, “It was really sad to say goodbye to that.”

“It’s not like I needed it for my own health or wellbeing,” she shared, “but that was a hugely wonderful story to tell for a lot of years.” Further complicating things for Parker was the uncertainty about whether or not John Corbett would be bringing Carrie’s other major love, Aiden Shaw, to And Just Like That. She told Buzzi, “It just felt really untethered.”

Parker also reflected on the toxic relationship between Carrie and Big, and her words echoed what many fans have said over the years: “All of it was a mess, and all of it was wonderful. It was romantic, and it was a disaster. It was destructive, and it was healthy.”

Carrie grieved her late husband, Big, in season 1 before going back and forth about reuniting with her ex, Aiden Shaw, in season 2. The show ended season 2 with a question about Carrie and Aiden’s future, but fans of the pairing are hopeful that they will see it continue to grow despite the obstacles between them.

HBO Max released a trailer for the upcoming season, and Carrie narrates it, saying, “There’s nothing like summer in New York City, with its hot days and even hotter nights. Something new and unexpected always awaits. Life is a story we get to write every day, and when the plot twists, we can choose to embrace a new chapter.”

Carrie’s new chapter in season 3 of And Just Like That… premieres on HBO Max on May 29, 2025.
