Sarah Jessica Parker Weighs In on ‘And Just Like That’ Finale and Show's Fate

16 August 20253 Mins Read

Days after the Sex and The City sequel television series And Just Like That… aired its final episode, the star of the show, Sarah Jessica Parker, weighed in on the divisive ending and the fate of the franchise.

The 60-year-old actress spoke with The New York Times about the show’s end, answering a question about why the show was ending now with the statement, “Because that’s where the story ended.”

She went on, talking about how the show could’ve continued if they wanted, saying, “We could have gone on doing coffee shops. There’s a million ways to do it that are easy and familiar and fun, but feel exploitative to us. We felt this was the honorable thing to do.”

“It’s very easy to stay. It’s where we’re all happy,” Parker stated, before commenting on the difficult decision to close out the story by adding, “But you have to be principled when you make these very difficult, agonizing decisions because there’s a lot of people who are affected.”

The publication also posed the straightforward question about whether or not Parker was happy with the decision to have her character, Carrie Bradshaw, end up on her own, to which she declared, “Absolutely.”

And Just Like That aired three seasons from 2021 to 2025, with Parker reprising her iconic character alongside Cynthia Nixon as Miranda Hobbes and Kristin Davis as Charlotte York Goldenblatt. Original star Kim Cattrall made a very brief cameo in the show in Season 2 and appeared in Season 3 via a text exchange.

The sequel series added new characters as well, with Sara Ramirez playing Che Diaz, Sarita Choudhury as Seema Patel, Karen Pittman as Dr. Nya Wallace, and Cathy Ang as Lily Goldenblatt. Many beloved characters from the original series also returned in the follow-up, including Chris Noth as Mr. Big and John Corbett as Aidan Shaw.

Parker and series showrunner Michael Patrick King reportedly made the decision to end the show together.
