Scandic Hotels Group is expanding its presence in Germany with a new hotel in downtown Berlin. The 214-room hotel, which is currently vacant, will be renovated to meet Scandic’s brand and operational standards. The establishment is in a lease agreement with AXA Investment Managers.
Berlin is a crucial market for Scandic due to its high demand for accommodation. The city hosts major trade fairs, conferences, and cultural events, attracting leisure and corporate guests. The new hotel near Kurfürstendamm, Berlin’s famous shopping street, and the city’s leading office complexes is expected to draw many visitors.
Scandic’s CEO, Jens Mathiesen, stated that the partnership with AXA Investment Managers would boost the company’s growth in the German market. The hotel will be Scandic’s third in Berlin, bringing the company’s total number of rooms in the city to 992.
This move aligns with Scandic’s expansion strategy and ambition to seize growth opportunities in key markets. As Jesper Engman, Senior Vice President of Portfolio Development, stated, the goal is to become one of West Berlin’s top choices for leisure and business travelers and build successful long-term partnerships.
The hotel is expected to open in the third quarter of 2026. During its renovation, investments will be made in technical and sustainability-related aspects. The Nordic Swan Ecolabel will be used to environmentally certify the hotel.
Once open, the hotel will offer modern meeting facilities, an attractive restaurant, beverage services, and a fitness center with a sauna. Its proximity to public transport will add to its appeal to travelers.
After the opening of this Berlin hotel, Scandic will operate nine hotels throughout Germany, offering 2,849 rooms.
