Alaska Airlines New Year’s at the Needle is gearing up for a spectacular experience at the Seattle Space Needle, where hundreds of drones and fireworks will light up the sky. What to expect at Alaska Airlines New Year’s at the Needle in Seattle
According to the Space Needle’s website, the festivities will kick off with lights-only preshows starting at 10 p.m. on Dec. 31 for in-person spectators only. There will be four 10-minute preshows between 10 and 11:30 p.m. before the live broadcast begins, also at 11:30. From there, those at home or at the show can sit back and take in what the Space Needle is calling “the largest structurally-launched firework show in North America.”
The televised coverage will be on KING 5 in Seattle, KGW 8 in Portland, KREM 2 in Spokane, and CW 8.2 in San Diego. Those in Seattle can tune in to a live simulcast of the soundtrack on HITS 106.1. The broadcast will include “behind-the-scenes coverage of the New Year’s spectacular, and musical performances by Seattle-based band Sugar Bones live from the top of the Space Needle.”
The fireworks and drone show will take to the sky for 18 minutes, starting seven minutes before midnight. Over 500 drones will make up the performance and if you’re looking for the best spot for a clear view, the Space Needle recommends the International Fountain Lawn or the Fisher Pavilion.
On the grounds at Seattle Center, there will also be performances from premier Northwest band The Blue Wave starting at 8 p.m. and at 10 p.m., the International Fountain will have a Fountain of Light show featuring DJ Baby Van Beezley.
Free to attend, this is the New Year’s Eve celebration you won’t want to miss out on in Seattle.
