Pack your bags, because the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) is about to take you to new heights.
SEA Airport is going from now to WOW, welcoming the world with some major upgrades focused on modernization. Maybe you’ve been through the terminals and have acquainted yourself with the new and improved services, or maybe this is entirely new information.
Regardless, here’s everything you can expect from this major project.
Accessing the airport
The first change happens before you even enter the doors. Roadway improvements are underway to help vehicles more efficiently sort themselves into the right lane for drop-off, pickup, ground transportation, and parking. Extra lanes will also allow more space for vehicles like shuttles and taxis.
As for parking, the recently completed Automated Parking Guidance System tracks the number of open spaces and alerts you to available stalls through a light system. No more endlessly circling the parkade in hopes someone has pulled out.
And have you noticed anything missing? Curbs have been eliminated, which, alongside improved ramps and the addition of advanced bollards, ensures passengers can enjoy a more accessible airport experience.
The SEA Gateway Project

When inconvenience strikes at an airport, it’s usually before you make it through the security line. That’s why SEA is upgrading nearly every level of airport pre-security, led by the SEA Gateway Project in partnership with Alaska Airlines.
Unused space is being developed into usable tenant space, while the airport’s baggage claim devices, elevators, signage, restrooms, and building systems will all undergo enhancements. These changes will contribute to a speedy, stress-free experience from check-in to boarding time.
Concourse expansion

The largest project happening at the upgraded SEA is the C Concourse Expansion which is promised to transform the airport. What do you do when space constraints keep you from building out? Build up, of course!
Four new floors are being added to the C Concourse, which will add 100,000 sq. ft. of dining, retail, amenities, performance spaces, and office spaces, along with updating technology and sustainability features to create a better passenger experience.
And with redesign comes, well, design. Each capital project has a creative visual element to it, with one per cent of the overall budget being dedicated to art. This makes SEA one of the best public art programs in the country!
These major projects are nearing the final stages of construction and are expected to wrap up in 2026. Experience for yourself how these changes improve efficiency in the passenger journey, while knowing that building, safety, and security systems are also in the best possible shape.
