Selena Gomez opened up about her life, past and present, in a revealing new interview for the podcast Therapuss with Jake Shane, sharing some details about the early years of her friendship with Taylor Swift.
During the conversation, Gomez recalled how she and Swift connected when they were both dating one of the Jonas brothers, with Gomez dating Nick and Swift dating Joe. While their romantic relationships didn’t work out, they found each other, with Gomez saying, “She and I like to say the best thing we got out of those relationships was each other.”
Going further, Gomez described being a teenager with Swift, sharing a special memory involving one of Swift’s biggest songs: “It was really sweet. I was about 15, she was about 18, and that’s when it was the crazy curly Taylor, and she had all these bracelets that went all the way up. I believe ‘Love Story’ was the first song she had ever played me and it wasn’t released yet.”
She went on, sharing her reaction to the track as she told Shane, “Yeah, I was in a hotel room and I remember it vividly. It was just one of those songs I instantly heard and thought this is one of the most beautiful songs ever.”
“Love Story” went on to be the lead single on Swift’s second album, Fearless, released in 2008. The song won a number of awards, including two CMT Music Awards. It remains one of Swift’s most popular tracks, and it was included in the setlist for her Eras Tour.
