If you’ve already stocked up on chocolate for Easter, it might be worth double-checking your stash.
The Quebec Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPAQ) issued a recall notice on April 11, 2025, for a series of chocolate bars sold in Montreal that could pose a health risk for people with allergies or intolerances to wheat or milk — as well as those with celiac disease.
The affected items were sold exclusively at Chocolaterie Bonneau, located at 69 Fleury Street West in Montreal. The bars were sold at room temperature in clear packaging with a cardboard label. The problem? Some of them may contain undeclared wheat or milk, meaning these allergens weren’t listed on the label.

In total, 10 types of chocolate bars are included in the recall. According to MAPAQ, any of the following may contain milk even if it’s not indicated on the packaging:
- Amande
- Café du Kenya
- Écorces d’orange
- Noisette
- Éclats de fève de cacao
- Fleur de sel
- Pacane
- Pistache
Two other products are flagged for potentially containing wheat:
- Perles craquantes chocolat au lait (milk chocolate crispy pearls)
- Perles craquantes 66% cacao (dark chocolate crispy pearls), which may contain both wheat and milk
No illnesses have been reported, but MAPAQ urges anyone with sensitivities to avoid consuming these products. If you have one at home, you’re advised to either throw it out or return it to the place of purchase.
