Shakira’s Madrid Residency Drives Hotel Bookings Up 15% and Prices Up 20%

17 September 20263 Mins Read

In Brief: Shakira’s Madrid concert residency has led to a 15% increase in hotel bookings and a 20% rise in room rates, highlighting the significant impact of large-scale entertainment events on local hotel performance.

Madrid will be more than just a stop on Shakira’s tour: for 12 nights, the capital will host the artist’s European musical residency, a phenomenon already reflected in rising hotel demand. Bookings have increased by 14.80% and prices by 19.70%, according to SiteMinder, the leading hotel commerce platform.

SiteMinder’s analysis compares hotel stays from 18 September to 11 October 2026, coinciding with the series of concerts, with the same period in 2025. The data shows how this musical phenomenon is driving hotel revenue, with the average daily rate rising to €339, almost 20% higher than the previous year, when it stood at €283.

Meanwhile, the share of domestic bookings has jumped by 65% compared with last year, confirming the drawing power of the Shakira phenomenon among her followers in Spain, who are willing to travel to Madrid to attend her concerts.

The Colombian artist has chosen Madrid as her musical residency. To host it, a themed venue is being built at the Iberdrola Music site in the Villaverde district. With a capacity of 50,000 people, it will host a range of activities designed to make the experience much more than a musical performance.

More planning and shorter stays

Alongside the increase in demand and prices, the ‘Shakira effect’ is also reflected in the way visitors are planning their trips to Madrid. Average booking lead time has increased from 106 days to 122 days in 2026 — 15% longer — indicating that travelers are planning their accommodation further in advance.

However, this greater interest is not translating into longer stays. Average length of stay has fallen from 2.1 to 1.7 nights, pointing to shorter trips directly linked to the artist’s concerts.

“Madrid is becoming one of Europe’s leading musical attractions. Shakira’s residency, with 12 concerts, is having a direct impact on the city’s hotel sector. The fact that travelers are planning their visits further in advance and opting for shorter stays shows how a major event can transform both demand and travel habits,” says Tamara Jiménez, SiteMinder’s Director for Spain.
