In a new teaser trailer for TLC’s Sister Wives, Robyn Brown claims that husband Kody Brown is “emotionally unsafe.”
Us Weekly reported on the reality star’s remarks, which followed a heartfelt admission from the former polygamist patriarch to his legal wife. In a clip obtained by the outlet, Kody told Robyn, “I need to stop with the self-deprecation regarding you and me.”
She shared a surprising, candid response. “The only thing that I’ve kind of pulled away from is when you’re emotionally unsafe, that’s it.” The reality star has used that phrase throughout the series to describe moments when she wants to avoid any difficult confrontations or conversations.
In turn, Kody praised Robyn for “being loyal.” She responded, “Well, you deserve it. You’ve earned it from me, honey. I’m right here.”

Kody continued to elevate Robyn for her loyalty, while calling his ex-wives “brutal.” He added, “It hasn’t been very fair. I haven’t been very fair with you. I’ve been apologizing to everybody. In spite of all how brutal they were. I was apologizing to them.”
He concluded, “But you were never brutal. You’re never unkind. You’re never disloyal. I’ve been apologizing to everybody. I think I owe you an apology most of all.”
This conversation follows Kody’s visits to ex-wives Janelle Brown, Meri Brown, and Christine Brown Woolley. Kody approached each woman on what the series promoted as an “apology tour” to make amends for his past behavior.
Kody first met with Janelle, seemingly the most forgiving of his exes. Although they had issues throughout their marriage, she was always willing to give him a second chance to make amends for his behavior.
His apology to Christine was more tense. She appeared to be interested in what her ex had to say, but didn’t hold his feet to the fire. Instead, she let her husband, David Woolley, take Kody to task on his estrangement from their six children.
Finally, Kody spoke to Meri, his first legal wife. She didn’t hold back in her criticism of his behavior throughout their marriage, and held him accountable, asking him to apologize for “being toxic to me.”
The newest episode of Sister Wives airs Sunday, Jan. 4 at 10 p.m. ET on TLC.
