'Sister Wives' Season 20 Apologies Spark Debate Over Kody Brown's True Intentions

22 August 20252 Mins Read

The newly released trailer for Sister Wives Season 20 has fans questioning Kody Brown’s true motives. In the preview, the TLC patriarch appears to launch what looks like an apology tour after years of criticizing his former wives. Now at the center of several major storylines, Kody takes the spotlight as the series enters its milestone 20th season on TLC.

In the trailer, Kody is shown attempting to bond with Christine Brown Woolley’s husband, David Woolley, during an afternoon of racecar driving. Later, he confides in his current wife, Robyn Brown, that women have reached out expressing interest in joining their plural family.

The drama intensifies when Kody, Robyn, Meri Brown, and Janelle Brown face off in a tense standoff over their long-disputed Coyote Pass property. According to PEOPLE Magazine, the land was eventually sold in April 2025 for $1.5 million.

While Season 20 highlights Kody’s apparent efforts to reconcile with his exes, many viewers aren’t convinced his behavior is genuine. On Reddit, fans called his actions “staged” and “for optics.” One user wrote, “Anything Kody says or does is painfully obvious, it’s faked and purely for storyline.” Another added, “An apology without consistent change is meaningless.” A third noted, “He’s never going to win viewers back, Kody’s done and said too much.”

The trailer also teases an emotional shift for Janelle. Although she previously told PEOPLE Magazine she didn’t view herself as divorced since she was never legally married to Kody, Janelle now admits she wants a spiritual release similar to what Meri received from their church.

Behind the scenes, Kody was also facing a child support case with Christine over their youngest daughter, Truely Brown. At the time of filming, the dispute was unresolved, but reports confirm a settlement has since been reached.

Sister Wives Season 20 premieres Sunday, September 28, 2025, at 10 p.m. ET on TLC.
