Small towns in Alberta that burst with energy in the spring time

8 April 20263 Mins Read

If you’re looking to make a spring trip within Alberta this year, we’ve got you covered.

This spring, we’ve rounded up some of the best towns and cities within Alberta to visit while everything is blooming. From small towns with legendary history to fun-filled places with dinosaurs galore, you won’t be missing out this spring, let me tell you.

Without further ado, let’s jump into it!

With the weather warming up soon (hopefully), you can expect to walk along Sylvan Lake’s… well, lake. This small town has the perfect vibes for getting away, offering a relaxing spot or an energetic vibe depending on your mood.

Here, you’ll even find the famous lighthouse, originally modelled after the one on Peggy’s Cove in Nova Scotia. The iconic building has been a symbol of Sylvan Lake since 1988 and is one of the only inland lighthouses between the Pacific Coast and Lake Winnipeg.

Where: Directions

People tend to just visit Drumheller when they are children or for a day trip, but people don’t know there’s still a lively town awaiting them. With the enormous Royal Tyrell Museum, as well as so many more hidden gems for food, you won’t regret making it out into the Hoodoos.

Where: Directions

Canmore is a town in Alberta’s Rocky Mountains, and it is definitely one of the go-to destination spots within the province. Since it’s spring, it only makes sense to make the day trip out there. With wildlife, beautiful plants and foliage, as well as an amazing community behind it, it’s a great spot to visit.

If you’re looking for the best hikes in Canmore this spring, we’ve got that, too.

Where: Directions

With trails spanning across towns and beautiful nature everywhere you look, Stony Plain is just a hop, skip, and a jump away from Edmonton, making it the perfect day trip.

This small town also has a very special connection to a town in Japan, having built a strong foundation of friendship and cultural exchange. Although Canada and Japan are far apart in distance, the connection between the two has closed the cultural gap.

Where: Directions

Located on the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains is Nordegg, a gorgeous hamlet in Alberta. This former coal-mining town is home to some absolutely stunning sights, wildlife galore, and the actual experience of the outdoors. Here, adventure can be found every which way.

Nordegg is well-known for its expansive outdoors. You can go hiking on one of its many trails and take in the blooming of spring. There are more than a few canyons to explore, and so many more options to uncover.
