3 October 20253 Mins Read

Smiling Yoshimoto is a dangerous man in Ghost of Yōtei, famous for attacking defenseless travelers on the Yōtei Grasslands roads, the initial area. There is a bounty for his head, and if you can find him, you’ll be paid a good amount of mon for risking your life. Also you earn a weapon kit to give a new look to your katana that will always make you remember the duel against Smiling Yoshimoto.

Below, here’s where to find Smiling Yoshimoto in Ghost of Yōtei, along with an explanation on how to unlock his bounty, and the rewards you receive for defeating him.

The Smiling Yoshimoto bounty is among the first ones you unlock in Ghost of Yōtei. You will find it on the bounty board near Yōtei’s Shadow Inn. The place is located northwest of Atsu’s home in the Yōtei Grasslands region. This specific bounty and the bounty board only become available after you complete the quest tied to the inn.

Where to find Smiling Yoshimoto in Ghost of Yōtei

As you accept the Smiling Yoshimoto bounty, you don’t have a lot of information to work with. All you know is that he was last seen next to the Tranquil Falls, along the Sarubetsu River. The location is marked on the map, slightly southwest of Yōtei’s Shadow Inn. If you’re feeling a bit lost, be sure to check our full Ghost of Yōtei interactive map.

Once you reach the area marked on the map, you want to look for a small camp next to the fall. Look for some lanterns hanging on trees to spot the right place. Now, you need to lure Smiling Yoshimoto to kill him.

Go to the center of the camp and build a fire. A short cutscene will play right after, and Smiling Yoshimoto will challenge you. He has a simple moveset, but can quickly kill Atsu if you don’t avoid his deadly attacks.

Once you defeat Smiling Yoshimoto, it’s time to claim your rewards. Killing him will give you a new weapon kit, the Smiling Kabuto-Mushi, which is basically a skin for your katana. Next, travel back to Yōtei’s Shadow Inn and talk to Kojiro beside the bounty board. He will give you 750 mon for completing this bounty.
